Nelson Mandela SDGs Business Booklet 2025
2025 Edition - A Call to Action for BusinessesThis special edition serves as a tribute to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela—affectionately known as Madiba—honoring his enduring legacy of leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice. As one of the world’s most respected statesmen, Mandela’s vision of equality, dignity, and human rights continues to inspire individuals, businesses, and institutions across the globe. The book aligns Madiba’s powerful words with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to highlight the vital role of business in driving inclusive, sustainable growth. With 2030 approaching, bold, accelerated action is urgently needed. The private sector holds a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to shape a future that reflects the values Mandela championed: perseverance, ethical leadership, social responsibility, and a deep commitment to equity. From corporate social investment and inclusive economic development to sustainable business practices, every organization can be a force for good. The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact provide a universal framework for responsible business conduct in human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Rooted in international declarations and conventions, they guide companies to operate ethically and sustainably while advancing broader societal goals. This edition also underscores the importance of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and their connection to the SDGs, calling on businesses to go beyond profit—respecting human rights while contributing to a more just, sustainable world.Through growing partnerships between the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, the United Nations, and the private sector, we seek to make meaningful contributions that leave no one behind. We call on business leaders to support action in areas such as poverty alleviation, reducing inequality, fostering job creation and entrepreneurship, advancing sustainable consumption and production, tackling climate change, supporting a just energy transition, transforming food systems, and enhancing governance, transparency, and accountability.By embracing his legacy and aligning business strategies with the SDGs and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we can create a future that is not only sustainable but just, inclusive, and humane.Let us honour Madiba—not only in words, but in action.
