Reporting on HIV in Eastern and Southern Africa - A Handbook for Journalists

This handbook, "Reporting on HIV in Eastern and Southern Africa - A Handbook for Journalists," was created by fraycollege with support from UNAIDS and SANAC as a guide for journalists in the region covering the ongoing HIV epidemic. It highlights the crucial role of journalists in combating "AIDS fatigue," providing accurate information on prevention, treatment, and care, and holding leaders accountable.
The handbook covers key areas like HIV statistics in Eastern and Southern Africa, including South Africa, the challenges faced by children, HIV prevention and treatment methods like PrEP, the ethics of HIV reporting, social media storytelling, multimedia content creation, and narrative journalism. It emphasizes the importance of ethical and responsible reporting, using respectful language, and protecting the privacy of people living with HIV.
Ultimately, this manual aims to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge and skills to report effectively and ethically on HIV, contributing to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and supporting efforts to end the HIV epidemic by 2030
