United Nations in South Africa in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, TEDxJohannesburg and the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), brought together an unforgettable lineup of speakers and performers who shared ideas around the world's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Dr. Nkuli Boikhutso, CEO of Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, exposes critical gaps in paediatric healthcare access in South Africa. Through the stories of children affected by healthcare inequality, she reveals how socio-economic factors and systemic barriers worsen child health outcomes. Boikhutso examines the public health system's struggle to serve 80% of the population, highlighting the severe shortage of dedicated children's hospitals across the country and continent. She advocates for innovative public-private partnerships and policies to increase the number of paediatric facilities and ensure equitable healthcare for all African children. Dr. Nkuli Boikhutso is the CEO of the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital in South Africa. Her personal experiences as a child cancer survivor inspired her to pursue medicine. Under her leadership, the hospital has become a leading institution for paediatric care in the region, serving disadvantaged children with healthcare needs that would otherwise not be accessible. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
