About the event
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in South Africa has procured food and non-food items to the value of R2.3 million and contributed to acquiring additional shelter (Wendy houses) to support the people of KwaZulu-Natal towards recovery and rebuilding in response to the flood disaster. UNDP is working with FoodFoward South Africa (FFSA), a KZN-based NGO, who will sort, package, and distribute the goods to 12 beneficiary organisations who will, in turn, convert the goods into meals that will be distributed to 28 relief sites across KZN. The goods will provide at least one daily meal to approximately 5000 floods affected residents.
Additionally, UNDP has joined forces with the South African Red Cross Society to provide Wendy houses as temporary shelter to the displaced people in shelters. This support is to ensure the segregation of genders in the shelters for protection and privacy purposes for the flood victims.
The media is invited to cover the official handover ceremonies. Details are as follows;
