United Nations in South Africa extends its condolences on the passing of Ms. Conny Nxumalo

  • Ms. Nxumalo was instrumental in mobilizing South Africans to the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children. She worked with UN agencies in the fight against HIV, stood up for women’s empowerment and against GBV while ensuring that child protection issues were at the forefront of her department’s priorities. 

Pretoria: The United Nations in South Africa is extending its condolences on the passing on of Ms. Conny Nxumalo, who as the Deputy Director-General in the Department of Social Development, leaves a lasting legacy in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV). 

Ms. Nxumalo was instrumental in mobilizing South Africans to the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children. She worked with UN agencies in the fight against HIV, stood up for women’s empowerment and against GBV while ensuring that child protection issues were at the forefront of her department’s priorities. 

“Sis Conny”, as she was so often fondly called, was a friend of the UN. With her vibrancy, perseverance and knowledge, she played a critical role in improving the lives of many South Africans. We will always remember her for her commitment to the betterment of the most vulnerable people in our society. 

The UN wishes to express its sympathy to the family and friends of Ms. Nxumalo and to all members of the Department of Social Department.
