Minister Dr. Blade Nzimande to officially launch the “Automotive Training and Re-Skilling in the Post-COVID Economic Recovery for Vulnerable Youth and Women in South Africa” project at the Coastal KZN TVET College

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) South Africa and the Government of Japan (GoJ), will officially launch the “Automotive Training and Re-Skilling in the Post-COVID Economic Recovery for Vulnerable Youth and Women in South Africa” project.

Since its inception in March 2021, a series of interventions have been delivered to increase the economic empowerment of women and youth through various skills development activities (skills relevant to the automotive industry) and to strengthen the capacity of TVET colleges to align with the post-COVID-19 economy and labour market needs, including the provision of equipment for flexible and digital learning. Supported through the funding from the GoJ, these interventions have benefitted three TVET colleges, namely Coastal KZN TVET College (Durban), Northlink College (Cape Town), and Tshwane South TVET College (Pretoria). Additionally, the newly equipped and refurbished Toyota Manufacturing Academy at the Coastal KZN TVET College with equipment support from the project will be officially opened during the launch. 

The launch is scheduled to take place on Friday, 13 May 2022 from 09h00 to 12h00 at Swinton Campus of the Coastal KZN TVET College. We are looking forward to having in attendence, the Honourable Dr Bonginkosi Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr. Ayodele Odusola, Resident Representative, UNDP South Africa, His Excellency Mr. Norio Maruyama, Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Suben Moodley, Senior Vice President, Toyota South Africa Motors and Mr. Ndoda Biyela, Administrator, Coastal KZN TVET College.
